HSA Receipts
Support
A free app for keeping every medical receipt, so you can pay yourself back from your HSA years later — tax-free.
How the app is meant to be used
An HSA lets money go in untaxed, grow untaxed, and come out untaxed for medical costs. If you can afford to pay a doctor's bill with your own money and leave the HSA invested, it keeps compounding — and the IRS sets no deadline on reimbursing yourself.
The catch is that you have to keep the receipt, possibly for decades. That is the entire job of this app.
A valid record needs four things: the date of service, who you paid, what it was for, and the amount. A credit card statement alone is not enough, because it never says what you bought.
Common questions
Where are my receipts stored?
On your iPhone, in this app's own private storage. Not on a server, and not in your camera roll. See the privacy policy.
How do I move to a new phone?
On the old phone: Export → Back up everything, then save the file somewhere you control — iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or email it to yourself. On the new phone: install the app, tap Import, and pick that file. Receipts you already have are left alone, so importing twice cannot create duplicates.
I forgot my passcode. Can you reset it?
No, and this is the honest trade for the app having no account. Nobody — including us — can unlock it, because there is no server holding a copy of anything. If you are locked out, the lock screen offers to erase the app's data so you can start again and restore from a backup file.
This is exactly why the app nudges you to export a backup every so often. Please take it up on that.
Why doesn't it fill in the fields from the photo automatically?
When text recognition is available it copies the receipt's words into a text box for you to read from — but it deliberately does not fill in your date, provider and amount. A misread that turns a $25 copay into $45 produces a record that looks right and is wrong, which is the worst possible outcome for a document whose whole purpose is to hold up years later. You type the four fields; the app keeps the receipt's own words alongside them.
What can I actually reimburse?
The app records expenses; it does not rule on them. IRS Publication 502 is the authority on what counts as a qualified medical expense, and your HSA administrator can answer questions about your specific account. Two rules worth knowing: an expense only qualifies if it was incurred after your HSA was opened, and you cannot claim the same dollar twice — if insurance reimbursed you, or you deducted it on your taxes, it does not qualify.
Does it cost anything?
No. There is no subscription, no receipt limit, no paid tier, and no advertising. Every feature — including the PDF packet and the full export — is free, and stays free.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no login, and no email required. The optional email field in Settings is only used to pre-address a backup you send yourself.
How do I delete everything?
Settings has an erase option, and deleting the app removes all of it. Both are permanent — export a backup first if you want to keep your records.
